Central Plateau Tour

This full day tour takes place on the island’s central plateau, delivering exceptional views along a lesser explored tourist trail. Learn about and taste Mauritian tea, visit the holy & sacred Crater Lake and wow your senses at the mystical 7 colored earth geological formation.  

This tour focuses around the central plateau of the island and the many hidden gems that often go overlooked by the beach flocking crowds.
Departing from your hotel, your guide will take you up and along the scenic plateau route which has fantastic views of the steep hillsides and vast areas of lush greenery. This fertile area is home to our first stop of the day, the Bois Cheri Tea Factory; a charming plantation which grows, picks and produces some of the finest Mauritian tea. We’ll enjoy a tour of the planted fields, a small museum dedicated to the production process, as well as getting to see some real-time tea production on site. Afterwards we’ll invite you to the veranda which boasts wonderful views overlooking a small lake and the tea fields – the perfect spot for some tea tasting! So sit back and enjoy the views while your selection of teas brew to their full flavor.

After the plantation, our scenic drive continues towards Grand Bassin and the spiritual Crater Lake – an incredibly tranquil and serene
place of worship for the island’s Hindu faith. The lake is surrounded by beautiful sculptures of Hindu gods, including two 100ft Lord Shivas at the entrance! Here we can enjoy a gentle stroll around the lake, take in the cool mountain air, see wild monkeys and even visit the little temple for a blessing if desired.

Our final stop before lunch will be to Alexandra Falls, located in Black River Gorges National Park. Here we’ll continue to enjoy the cool, fresh air as well as the impressive viewpoints that unbelievably stretch all the way back to the coastline and deliver unrivaled combinations of rugged mountain ranges, endless tropical greenery and tumbling cascades.

Cette
excursion se focalise sur le centre de l’île et ses coins cachés, bien souvent
oubliés des touristes qui préfèrent les plages. Votre guide vous conduira au
long des routes menant au plateau central, du haut duquel vous pourrez admirer
les paysages verdoyants des chaînes de montagnes. Notre premier arrêt sera
l’usine de thé de Bois Chéri, situé au coeur des plantations de thé et
producteur d’un des meilleurs thé locaux. Vous pourrez visiter le musée dédié à
la culture du thé et découvrir le processus de production de thé au sein de
l’usine. Vous pourrez aussi déguster les différentes variétés de thé au
restaurant de l’usine, tout en profitant d’une vue imprenable.

Notre
balade se poursuivra avec la visite de Grand Bassin, une ancienne formation
volcanique maintenant devenue un lac et qui est un lieu sacré de pèlerinage
pour les mauriciens de foi hindoue. Ce lac, d’une tranquillité et d’une
sérénité absolues, est entouré de sculptures de divinités hindoues, dont une
statue du dieu Shiva d’une hauteur de 100 pieds. Vous pouvez vous balader le
long du lac, respirer l’air frais les hauteurs, voir des singes sauvages et
visiter le temple bordant le lac.

Notre
dernière visite de la matinée sera la cascade d’Alexandra, située dans le parc
national de Rivière Noire. Vous pourrez continuer à profiter de l’air frais et
des vues panoramiques de cascades, forêts verdoyantes et chaînes de montagne
s’étendant jusqu’aux côtes.
